How to use the classroom timer

Pick a preset — 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes — or type any custom minutes and seconds into the custom box. Press "Start" (or hit the space bar) and the countdown fills the screen with digits big enough to read from the back of the room. As time runs low, the background gently shifts from calm cream to a warm warning color, so students can feel the deadline approaching without staring at the clock.

When time is up, a gentle three-tone chime plays and a friendly "Time's up!" message replaces the digits. If you'd rather stay silent, tap the sound button — the mute state is remembered while the tab is open. Pause any time with the space bar, and reset instantly with the R key.

Flip to stopwatch mode when you'd rather count up — great for timing group challenges, book-reading laps, or how quickly the class can quiet down. The same big display and controls carry over. When you click the fullscreen button, the timer takes over the projector and the ad slots disappear so nothing distracts the class.

Classroom ideas

• Transitions. A two-minute countdown to move from carpet to desks — the background shift is a visual cue on its own.
• Writing sprints. Five focused minutes of silent writing, then share.
• Turn-and-talks. A 90-second custom timer keeps partner talk crisp.
• Test time remaining. Project the timer so students self-pace without asking "how much longer?"
• Brain breaks. A 3-minute countdown that stretches, dances, or drinks water.
• Line-up challenge. Switch to stopwatch and see how fast the class can be silent and ready.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and the timer keeps ticking accurately even when the tab is in the background.
